Joe + Mikayla | Proposal on Sunset Rock
After changing proposal plans multiple times and frantically asking for peanut butter over the group message, Joe (the extremely nervous proposer), Mikayla (his unsuspecting and soon-to-be fiance), Spencer (Mikayla’s brother), Kayla (Joe’s best friend), Cord (Kayla’s husband and Joe’s undeniable bromance), and I (photographer, fellow Anberlin fan, and Twitter buddy of Joe’s), headed up Signal Mountain in Tennessee for a “picnic” of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and grape juice.
Everyone except Mikayla knew the true reason for our picnic, and as sunset drew closer and closer, Joe became more and more nervous. Finally, after waiting for what seemed to Joe to be an eternity, he began his proposal even though it was well before golden hour. He began with a card in which he had composed a poem. This poem was part of a series of cards he had written for Mikayla to open during the week of their one year anniversary.
After she finished reading the card, he got down on one knee to pop the question. Mikayla began tearing up, covered her face with her hands, and couldn’t get her words out. Joe, not knowing whether she was going to say “Yes” or “No,” began edging toward the cliff, later claiming it was his next best option if she did not agree to marry him.
Thankfully, for all our sakes, Mikayla tearfully and joyfully agreed to be his bride. Golden hour hit in perfect time to take post-proposal photos, and these two were so easy to photograph in their happiness.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special moment, Joe and Mikayla. Congratulations!
